Abstract: The failure patterns of the large span steel structure (LSSS) at is a kind of large deformation instability limit state and its safety control indexes mainly includes strength ductility performance and deformation ductility performance. However, there is no specific regulation about ductility performances in Chinese steel structure codes systems. Based on large number of engineering design practices and experimental study, structure analyses are firstly carried out when considering geometrical non-linearity and material non-linearity. Then load-stress、load-strain and load-displacement whole process curves are obtained and strength ductility performance and deformation ductility performance of LSSS are carefully investigated. On this basis, the control indexes of strength ductility performance and deformation ductility performance for systems and joints of LSSS under elastic and elastic-plastic analysis are set up and a ductility performance-based method for LSSS design is put forward.
